Hugging Face releases 2024 security feature highlights for AI model hub
The AI platform outlines default protections for all users plus advanced enterprise controls including SSO, audit logs, and data residency options.

Hugging Face has detailed its 2024 security roadmap, breaking down protections available across its model and dataset hub into user-tier offerings.
Universal Security Controls#
All Hub users can access fine-grained tokens that enforce least-privilege access on a per-resource basis, reducing blast radius if credentials leak. Two-factor authentication adds a second verification layer beyond passwords, while commit signing via GPG prevents author impersonation on repositories.
Organizational access controls let teams assign granular roles—read, write, contributor, or admin—to limit the impact of compromised accounts.
The platform runs automated security scanning across all repos and commits, including:
- Malware detection via ClamAV signatures
- Pickle file analysis using picklescan to identify malicious code
- Secret scanning with trufflehog to catch exposed passwords, tokens, and API keys
Verified leaked secrets trigger email alerts so owners can invalidate them immediately.
Enterprise-Grade Protections#
Enterprise Hub subscribers gain single sign-on (SSO) via SAML 2.0 and OpenID Connect, compatible with Okta, Azure AD, and other identity providers. Resource groups let organizations segment repositories by team or purpose—research, engineering, production—to compartmentalize risk.
New in 2024: organization token management, allowing admins to enforce fine-grained tokens and approve each one before use. Admins can review and revoke access at any time.
Data residency controls specify where repositories are stored (US, EU, Asia-Pacific coming soon), helping meet compliance requirements. Audit logs record all changes with usernames, IP addresses, and timestamps—downloadable as JSON for integration with security tools.
Hugging Face holds SOC2 Type 2 certification and GDPR compliance, with Business Associate Addendums available for enterprise data-processing agreements.
