Spotify launches paid membership tiers for podcast creators
The platform now lets podcasters charge fans for exclusive content, early episodes, and ad-free listening through a new monetization feature rolling out in 34 regions.

Spotify has begun rolling out a new monetization tool that lets podcasters create paid membership tiers for their audiences. The feature, first previewed in May, is now launching across 34 regions and gives creators a direct way to generate revenue beyond ad placements.
How it works#
The membership system functions similarly to platforms like Patreon, where fans voluntarily subscribe for bonus perks. Listeners can discover membership options directly on a show's Spotify page and subscribe with just a few taps. Podcast creators retain 90 percent of membership revenue, making it a lucrative alternative income source compared to ad-supported models.
Creators can customize their offerings across multiple subscription tiers—including benefits like bonus episodes, early access to new content, ad-free listening, and exclusive materials. Spotify also provides analytics tools and promotional features (free trials, targeted campaigns) to help podcasters grow their subscriber base, along with community engagement options like member badges and welcome clips.
Eligibility and existing tools#
To qualify, shows must be hosted through Spotify for Creators or Megaphone and meet minimum thresholds: 100 consumption hours, 100 listeners, and at least three published episodes. Creators managing paywalled content elsewhere can also import their existing subscriber base using Spotify's Open Access feature.
This membership option complements rather than replaces other revenue streams. Podcasters can continue earning through advertising, the Spotify Partner Program, and the separate podcast subscription feature Spotify introduced in 2021.
