Anthropic Integrates Claude Chrome Extension with Cowork Sessions, Syncing Across Apps
Claude's browser extension now functions as a full Cowork session, allowing conversations and tools to sync across desktop, mobile, and web—rolling out to Max and Team subscribers.
The New Stack
Anthropic has overhauled its Claude Chrome extension to function as a native Cowork client, bridging the gap between browser-based interactions and the broader Claude ecosystem. Previously, the extension operated largely in isolation; now it synchronizes conversations, skills, and connectors across all of Anthropic's platforms.
Unified Claude experience#
The redesigned extension now saves all browser conversations to a user's Claude history, enabling seamless continuity—start a task on desktop or mobile and pick it up in the browser sidebar without missing context. Users gain access to their full suite of skills and connectors within the browser, extending Claude's reach to applications that lack native integration.
The browser extension's core strength is its ability to observe and interact with web content directly. Anthropic notes that while many everyday tools now connect to Claude, many others—internal dashboards, legacy systems, vendor portals—remain unreachable through standard integrations. The Chrome extension bridges this gap by allowing Claude to operate within these systems through the browser interface itself.
Rolling out to subscribers#
The update is currently available to Max and Team plan subscribers, with Pro users receiving access in the coming weeks. Enterprise customers have the feature disabled by default but can enable it selectively across specific domains.
Mitigating browser-based risks#
Operating an AI agent in the browser introduces distinct security challenges, particularly prompt injection attacks where malicious website code could hide instructions for Claude. To address this, Anthropic is extending its auto mode technology to the browser agent, allowing Claude to autonomously detect suspicious activity and operate with minimal user intervention.
The system retains safeguards against risky actions—purchases and personal data sharing still require explicit approval—though Anthropic acknowledges that "while these measures meaningfully reduce the risk, they cannot eliminate it." No agent-based system offers perfect security.
A final limitation: the extension functions only in Chromium-based browsers; it is not available on mobile platforms.
