Amazon hands Alexa Plus to all Fire TV users at no extra cost
The conversational AI assistant is rolling out free to Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Cube owners across the US, expanding beyond subscription-only access.
The Verge
Amazon is making its upgraded Alexa Plus voice assistant available to all Fire TV device owners in the US at no charge. The rollout starts today and covers owners of Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Cube, Amazon Ember smart TVs, and third-party models from manufacturers like Panasonic and Hisense that come with the AI assistant built in.
From Premium to Baseline#
Until now, Alexa Plus had been gated behind a Prime membership or a paid Alexa Plus subscription. The shift means Amazon is folding what was previously an upsell feature into the standard Fire TV experience for all US users.
What Alexa Plus Can Do on Fire TV#
The upgraded assistant opens up richer ways to interact with video. Users can ask for movie recommendations tailored to their mood, have Alexa jump to specific scenes in shows and films, and get real-time answers about what's on screen. Beyond entertainment, Alexa Plus also doubles as a smart home hub—letting you manage connected lights, locks, camera feeds, and other devices through voice commands.
Broader Rollout Planned#
Amazon is applying the upgrade automatically across its Fire TV user base. The company noted that "additional devices and regions may be added over time," signaling potential expansion beyond the current US footprint and device lineup.
