Google Chrome now picks up where you left off across your devices
Chrome's cross-device tab switching gains memory features and new Gemini AI capabilities for research and study.
The Verge
Google has rolled out a set of Chrome enhancements aimed at streamlining research workflows and collaborative learning. The upgrades span cross-device usability and AI-powered study tools, making it simpler to juggle complex topics across multiple screens.
Seamless tab continuity across devices#
Chrome's ability to send tabs between devices is getting smarter. When you switch from mobile to desktop—or the reverse—the browser will now retain your exact scroll position within the page, eliminating the frustration of hunting through a lengthy document to find where you stopped. The feature also preserves partially completed forms, so you can start filling one out on your phone and finish it comfortably on a laptop without re-entering data.
Expanded Gemini capabilities for learning#
The Gemini AI assistant embedded in Chrome is broadening its reach beyond text. Previously limited to analyzing documents, webpages, and YouTube videos, Gemini can now process a wider range of media, including podcasts and hosted video files. This means you can feed it an audio lecture or philosophy seminar recording, and the tool will extract key points, surface specific details, or untangle confusing sections for you.
Additionally, Chrome's Gemini can now generate interactive study quizzes drawn from whatever content you're currently viewing, offering a dynamic way to test comprehension beyond passive note review.
Rollout timeline#
The quiz feature is launching first in the US and India on desktop in English, with expansion to other regions and mobile platforms arriving over the following months.
