Meta launches Mac app for its AI assistant with screen-sharing capabilities
Meta is rolling out a dedicated macOS application for its AI chatbot, enabling users to share screen content and tap into productivity features across web and mobile platforms.
The Verge
Meta has unveiled a native Mac application for its AI assistant, marking the company's latest effort to position its chatbot as a serious productivity tool in a crowded field of competing AI platforms. The app allows users to share their screen with Meta AI, which can then deliver context-aware suggestions, respond to queries, and help generate content based on what's visible. Voice dictation is also available across Mac applications.
Screen-sharing and workspace integration#
The standout feature lets users point Meta AI at their screen, effectively giving the assistant visibility into their work. From there, the chatbot can provide real-time guidance or create materials tied to what it observes. The application integrates with Google Workspace, enabling Meta AI to pull data from and contribute to documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
Expanding AI capabilities for creators and businesses#
Beyond the Mac app itself, Meta is broadening its AI offerings for commercial users. The chatbot can now tap directly into Instagram and Facebook accounts, access Meta ad campaigns, and draw from Google Workspace resources. These integrations let businesses ask the AI to review post engagement metrics—including reach, likes, shares, and saves—and receive suggestions for future content. The tool can also synthesize account data and web research to assemble documents and reports, and automate recurring tasks such as generating weekly analytics summaries.
Competitive landscape#
The move reflects Meta's push to compete with established AI desktop applications. Google's Gemini already offers screen-sharing on Mac, while ChatGPT and Claude have gone further, allowing their respective AI systems to take direct control of the computer. By bundling accessibility with business-focused features, Meta is attempting to appeal to both everyday users and organizations seeking AI-powered workflow assistance.
