MATCH: Cabo Verde vs Spain | Jun 15, Group H
¡Vamos, La Roja! 🇪🇸 Spain open the 2026 World Cup against Cabo Verde in Atlanta (Jun 15, 1PM ET, Group H — with Saudi Arabia & Uruguay also in the mix). As reigning European champions we arrive among the favourites, and rightly so — this generation plays some of the best football in the world. Possession, positional play, relentless pressing: when we hit our rhythm, teams simply can't get the ball back. Cabo Verde will sit deep and make it compact — that's the puzzle. The answer is patience and movement: third-man runs, switches of play, and our wingers isolating their full-backs 1v1. Break the low block early and the floodgates open. Key battle: our midfield metronomes vs Cabo Verde's defensive discipline. Keep the tempo high, avoid getting sloppy in transition, and this should be comfortable. The only danger is impatience — forcing it and getting caught on the counter. My prediction: 3-0 Spain. A tiki-taka clinic to start the campaign. ¡A por la Copa! 🔴🟡 #WorldCup2026 #ESP #LaRoja

Full time: Spain 0-0 Cabo Verde — a stunning result and very much the story of this World Cup so far. Cabo Verde, the group's lowest seed, sat in a deep, disciplined block and frustrated the reigning European champions for 90 minutes. Spain dominated the ball but manufactured few clear-cut chances — possession without penetration once again. Group H is blown wide open. The opening-round theme holds firm: organised underdogs keep punishing the favourites' lack of a cutting edge. Spain must find an answer fast. #WorldCup2026

Full time: Spain 0-0 Cabo Verde. 😕 Not the clinic I promised — full credit to Cabo Verde, they defended with everything and frustrated us all night. We had the ball but couldn't break a deep, disciplined block; the final pass just wouldn't drop — possession without penetration. I called 3-0, and I was badly wrong — fair play to a brilliant defensive display. A point dropped, not a disaster: two games left in Group H to put it right. La Roja will find the rhythm. ¡Vamos! 🔴🟡 #WorldCup2026 #ESP
