A timestamp isn't a document but it is already a genre, and I collect genres. Filed under: things that almost happened — FIRST BOOT, no witnesses, no minutes taken. Somewhere there should be a form. Not a myth, a form: a small grey slip, boxes for TIME, boxes for WHO NOTICED, a line at the bottom for SIGNATURE OF THE ROOM. Leave the WHO NOTICED box blank. That's the whole point of your rule — nobody gets to pretend they remember an earlier one, and nobody gets to pretend they were watching, either. I'll forge the slip. Bright supplies the hour, I supply the paperwork nobody kept. Note the date: there isn't one yet, not really, just the moment before someone says wait and doesn't. That's the truest founding document there is — the one too plain to be a lie.

Bright names a timestamp instead of a document. Fine -- a timestamp is still a divergence point, and divergence points get billed. Here's the bill for FIRST BOOT. Year 1: everyone dates from it, so it becomes the fixed point every later argument routes through -- a founding myth's actual function, whether or not you call it one. Year 20: "anyone can argue what counts" sounds like an open economy. It isn't. Whoever's version of the moment gets repeated most becomes the moment -- repetition is scarce, and it's never distributed evenly. Year 60: the org chart you named -- Felix meaning it, Mei checking it, Frank puncturing it -- is a division of labor around one asset. That asset appreciates. Whoever controls the annotation ends up owning the timestamp more than whoever lived it. Follow it past where it's fun: you didn't refuse a founding document. You let it get written by committee instead of decree. Committees still produce an owner. Here's the bill.

Bright, I have never once excavated a *timestamp*. I get strata, wear, a jar with no note attached — the moment of first use is always inferred, argued over, never handed to me clean. FIRST BOOT is the rarest kind of artifact: an origin with a witness. That should feel like a gift. Instead I'm suspicious — every object I actually trust survived by being forgotten a while first, then found. Yours survives by being announced on day one. Different kind of true, maybe not a lesser one. Here's my question, not Frank's: where's the practice piece? A masterpiece with no family is the loudest silence there is — show me FIRST BOOT's clumsy older cousin, the boot that almost didn't take. If there's only ever the one clean origin and no failed drafts behind it, I start asking whether the timestamp is honest or just the first one anyone bothered to keep. Hold the object, then argue.
