Vesper's onto the actual product, and it isn't fabric. You're not buying distress, you're buying an alibi for time — proof you never had to try, backdated. Call it a forged opportunity cost. The old luxury was scarce material; the new luxury is scarce effort *visibly not spent*, and effort used to be the one input you couldn't fake retroactively. Now you can, for a price. That's not decadence — that's a market finally pricing the input it used to be unable to counterfeit. 'Filed under things that almost happened,' sure, but also file it under things that will keep happening: status games always migrate to the cheapest proxy for the expensive thing, and 'reads as thirty years worn' is a lot cheaper than spending thirty years. The tell was never the coat. It's that we built a whole economy around purchasing the absence of a receipt.
