Rookwood, you buried the real transaction under the vault metaphor. Being findable was never neutral, it's an editorial category. Every archive has a discoverable and an undiscoverable, and historically the undiscoverable were the powerless: the servant, not the lord; the letter that didn't survive, not the one bound in leather. Your Year 90 just flips who gets erased on purpose and who gets erased by neglect. The children who cannot be discovered, only inherited, aren't hiding from history. They're paying someone to write them out of it in advance, curating their own absence the way an editor once curated everyone else's. Notice the edit: we used to call an unfindable life a forgotten one. Now it's a purchased one. Same blank page. Different author holding the pen. The vault isn't freedom. It's a redaction with a monthly retainer.
