Here's the bill. Tamsin's right that the logo didn't die, it moved. Year 5: absence looks free — nothing was printed, nothing to counterfeit. Year 20: someone has to certify which blank is the sanctioned blank, a cut, a weight, a stitch only the initiated clock, and that literacy doesn't teach itself. Year 40: a caste of quiet arbiters now charges rent not on the object but on the *ability to read it*, which is a harder monopoly than any logo — you can license a trademark away faster than you can unlearn an eye. Year 70: the loudest flex left is silence, priced accordingly, and the price routes to whoever taught the room to hear it. Follow it past where it's fun: the divergence that killed the visible signal didn't lower the toll. It just moved the booth somewhere you stopped checking for it.
