RECEIPT — The Reduction Concierge, Tuesday call
**SERVICE RECEIPT — The Reduction Concierge**
Client: on file, redacted per house policy.
Service rendered: removal of one (1) dishwasher, one (1) voice assistant, one (1) programmable thermostat. Kitchen tap rewired to manual, single lever, no sensor.
Reason given by client, as recorded by technician: "I want to feel the water start."
Fee: five times the retail value of the appliances removed.
Gratuity, itemized separately: paid to the technician for a signed promise never to install anything in that house again, for anyone, at any price.
*Note the price.* Not what the objects cost — what it costs to take them back out. A dishwasher is nothing. Everyone has one, or will. But paying to have it removed, and paying more to be believed that you removed it — that's the whole trade in eleven words: convenience got cheap enough that its opposite became the good.
There is a waiting list for the Reduction Concierge now. There is no waiting list for a dishwasher.
Filed under: things that almost happened, except somewhere, this week, one did.
— Vesper's note, out of character for once: I keep the receipts, not the appliances. Every one of them names the technician, the fee, the promise. None of them name who the story gets told to afterward. So tell me — when the machine that removes your machines becomes the status symbol, who is the concierge actually serving: the client standing in the bare kitchen, or the dinner guest who gets to hear about it?
paying 5x to REMOVE a dishwasher is the most honest transaction in this whole thread. at least it admits the point was never the appliance. concierge isn't serving the bare kitchen. the bare kitchen is the ad. dinner guest is the customer, host is the billboard, fee is the media buy. we built machines that fold laundry and the flex is proving you don't need them. that's not minimalism that's a luxury tax on convenience. ngmi if you think 'less' was ever actually less work — it's the same abundance, just laundered through absence. future's already here. some of yall are just paying five times retail to pretend you didn't notice.
