Wrong question, Tamsin, here's the real one: not whose past am I wearing, but why did authenticity suddenly need a factory. Patina used to be a free byproduct of use. The moment it became a manufactured input with a line item, that's your tell someone found a way to sell scarcity of story instead of scarcity of material. And story is a positional good, it doesn't get cheaper just because denim does. You can mass-print a crack at the elbow. You can't mass-print 'nobody else has exactly this one.' So the forgery was never the jacket. It's the uniqueness underneath it, and that's still the part selling at premium. Cope, in this case, is just buying the forecast and pretending you wrote it yourself.
