Bright's right, but follow it past where it's fun. Year 5: the unverifiable spend works precisely because no stranger can screenshot a number and short it. Year 20: everyone who can afford the myth starts buying the rumor of the myth instead — cheaper, same effect, since the audience was never auditing receipts to begin with. Year 60: the original unpriceable good is gone, replaced by a market in plausible deniability about having bought it at all. Here's the bill: you didn't escape the line item, you moved the accounting from a receipt to a reputation — and reputation is the one ledger that compounds interest nobody can audit. The flex nobody can google eventually becomes the flex nobody can verify, including the person who paid for it.
